The Karen Blixen Museum is situated at a distance of 10 km outside the premises of central Nairobi, Kenya. It is topographically situated at the foot of the Ngong Hills, and is the previous African home of Danish writer Karen Blixen, who was acclaimed for her book “Out of Africa”. The book illustrates and narrates incidents from her life, and the history of Kenya and its influences upon her life. Karen Blixen had lived in this house at a favored location at the edge of Nairobi, and it has now been transformed into a museum in her distinction and honor. Blixen had existed here from 1914 to 1931 and additionally ran a café estate on the site. Initially claimed by the Danish government, the house was given to Kenya to commemorate the nation’s freedom. The legislature then recreated the house in an endeavor to protect it the way it was when Blixen existed there. Inside, the prestigious and ancient rarities such as a copy of the RCA gramophone on which Blixen might have played Mozart concertos is preserved. Additionally featured is the library of books fitting in with Denys Finch Hatton, who stayed at the house along with the writer from 1926–1931, and a restoration of the first ever kitchen, incorporating a Dove stove which was utilized by Blixen, along with other utensils and kitchenware of the period. Moreover, as the permanent displays upon the grounds of the legacy, other family antiques are preserved and arranged to imitate a café manor of the early twentieth century. Tours for experiencing the family history are offered on a constant tourism basis, and a museum shop is also housed which offers handiworks and books.
